PDP Set To Screen Goodluck Jonathan On Tuesday As Its Sole Presidential Aspirant For 2027 Presidential Race

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction led by Tanimu Turaki, SAN, has scheduled the screening of former President Goodluck Jonathan for Tuesday, May 19, as the party’s sole presidential aspirant.
In a statement issued by the faction aligned with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, it was announced that a 14-member committee has been constituted to screen Jonathan, who is being presented as the party’s lone candidate. Members of the committee include former Vice-President Namadi Sambo; former Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang; former Minister of Foreign Affairs Tom Ikimi; Chief Olabode George; Babangida Aliyu; Maryam Ciroma; Zainab Maina; Josephine Anenih; Dr. Abdul Bulama; Dr. Esther Uduehi; Edo State PDP Chairman Tony Aziegbemi; Dr. Sunday Solarium; and Chief Anicho Okoro, who will serve as the committee’s administrative secretary.
Last week, the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, confirmed that Jonathan had successfully registered as a party member during the ongoing digital registration exercise approved by INEC.
The PDP faction further disclosed that it would screen 748 House of Representatives aspirants, 198 senatorial aspirants, and 112 governorship aspirants. Additionally, 2,122 State House of Assembly aspirants are expected to undergo screening.
According to the statement, the nationwide screening exercise will commence on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., across various states.
The Interim National Working Committee (INWC) has also announced the composition of the Screening Committees and Screening Appeal Panels. The party noted that the release of these details is in line with its guidelines and timetable for the conduct of the 2027 general elections.
