Onanuga Defends Tinubu’s Reforms, Says President Took ‘Bullets’ to Save Nigeria
*Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has defended the economic reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu, saying the administration took painful but necessary decisions to save Nigeria from fiscal collapse.

In an article titled, “Bola Tinubu: The Man Who Took the Bullet for Nigeria to Survive,” Onanuga accused opposition politicians of spreading misinformation ahead of the 2027 elections despite what he described as the administration’s notable achievements.

According to him, Tinubu inherited a struggling economy marked by fuel scarcity, multiple exchange rates, huge debt servicing obligations, low government revenue, and an unsustainable fuel subsidy regime. He said the removal of fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira were difficult but necessary reforms that have improved allocations to states.

“The man who has taken the bullets to save Nigeria from fiscal disaster is also ready to take more bullets to ensure the safety of all Nigerians,” he stated.

Onanuga added that the increased allocations have enabled many states to execute projects and pay workers’ salaries, while also claiming that development is becoming visible across several parts of the country.

“When local governments begin to receive their allocations directly from the Federation Account, the Tinubu effect will ensure that governance reaches all the 774 local councils,” he added.

He further highlighted gains in the stock market, ongoing infrastructure projects such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, reforms in the energy sector, student loans through NELFUND, and credit schemes under CREDICORP.

While admitting that insecurity remains a major challenge, Onanuga said the Federal Government is strengthening security operations and international cooperation, insisting that the Tinubu administration will be remembered for its far-reaching reforms.*
