The Ebonyi State Government, led by Governor Francis Nwifuru, has approved the sum of ₦16.012 billion for the operation of the state’s Abuja Liaison Office in the 2026 fiscal year.

The Abuja House, which serves as Ebonyi State’s liaison office in the Federal Capital Territory, was rebuilt and furnished by former Governor and current Minister of Works, David Umahi, shortly before the end of his administration.

The budget, which received approval from the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, earmarks ₦16,012,600,000 for the running of the facility in 2026.

Comparisons with available budget figures from other Southeast states indicate that none allocated more than ₦1 billion for the annual operation of their Abuja liaison offices, with Imo State’s provision reportedly below ₦200 million.

The allocation has generated concerns among some residents and critics, who have questioned the rationale behind the expenditure at a time when many citizens in the state continue to grapple with economic hardship.
