"Edo Community in Chaos as Dispute Over a Dance Woman Leaves One Dead, Seven Houses Destroyed
One person was beheaded and seven houses set ablaze in Ogute-Oke community, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State, following a dispute involving a young woman.

The tragic incident occurred shortly after the community's Olimi festival and a celebration held in honour of the burial of a prominent chief. Several residents reportedly fled the area for fear of arrest and possible reprisals.

According to a source who spoke anonymously on Monday, the trouble started during the burial celebration when a disagreement arose after a man became angry that another man was dancing with a woman he had brought to the party.

The source said the enraged man allegedly attacked his rival with a cutlass, inflicting severe injuries to the neck. The victim was rushed to the hospital, where he was later confirmed dead.

In retaliation, relatives of the deceased reportedly invaded the community of the suspected attacker and set seven houses on fire, forcing residents to flee to avoid being lynched.

Another source explained that the attack escalated unexpectedly, claiming that the person struck with the cutlass was not directly involved in the dispute. He added that community elders had since intervened and succeeded in calming tensions.

Efforts to reach the Edo State Police Command spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, for comments were unsuccessful, as she did not answer calls at the time of filing the report.
